Microbial transformation of validamycins.

Alpha- or beta-Glucosidic linkage of validamycin was selectively cleaved by microbial hydrolysis and especially the conversion of validamycin C into validamycin A by the selective hydrolysis of alpha-glucoside linkage has important significance because validamycin C is considerably less active than validamycin A. Semisyntheses of validamycins including a new validamycin, beta-D-galactosyl-vali...

MICROBIAL TRANSFORMATION OF CHOLESTEROL BY MYCOBACTERIUM SMEGMATIS

Mycobacterium smegmatis PTCC 1307 (CIP 73.26) was used as a microbial agent to produce androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione (ADD) and androst-4-ene-3,17-dione, two useful precursors in the synthesis of steroid drugs. The side chain of cholesterol, as the substrate, was selectively cleaved in the presence of five enzyme inhibitors. An intermediate structure with intact side chain, cholest-4-ene-3-one, ...

Microbial transformation of albendazole.

Screening scale studies were performed to biotransform anthelmintic drug albendazole by using twelve bacterial strains representing six genera and five actinomycetes cultures. Among the cultures studied, Bacillus subtilis MTCC 619, Escherichia coli MTCC 118 and Klebsiella pneumoniae MTCC 109 could transform albendazole to one metabolite whereas, Enterobacter aerogenes NCIM 2695, Klebsiella aero...

Microbial Transformation of (-)-Alloisolongifolene

(-)-Alloisolongifolene (1) is a structural analogue of the naturally occurring longifolene. The microbial transformation of (-)-alloisolongifolene (1) by Cunninghamella elegans afforded two new metabolites, 3a-hydroxyalloisolongifolol (2) and 13-hydroxyalloisolongifolol (3). The structures of the metabolites were deduced on the basis of their spectral data, including 1D and 2D NMR, IR and HREIMS.

Microbial transformation of xenobiotics

Introduction The term xenobiotic (Greek xenos + bioticos, which means “strange” and “life-related” respectively) means a chemical substance that is not a natural component of a living organism exposed to it, i.e. a strange, exogenous substance or anthropogenic material. This definition covers substances strange to the target organisms, hence its use for most poisons and drugs. An important grou...
